Samsung Galaxy Y S5360
Created as an entry-level smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 can be described as being one step ahead of dumb phones. Priced inexpensively, the phone is a fine device for young people whose parents will have to pay for it, as well as those who just want to find out if they are tech-savvy enough to handle the features of a smart phone. In fact, the Y stands for Young.
Perhaps the best thing about the Y is its Android version 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system. This can even be upgraded to 2.3.6. With this, you have access to Google’s wide range of services and apps. The processor is an 830 MHz ARM v6, which, while it does not run are lighting speeds, is sufficiently fast for an entry-level smart phone. Internal memory is only 180 MB, but a 2 GB microSD card comes with the phone. In fact, the microSD card slot can support up to 32 GB. As for its RAM, 290 MB is user-available.
The display is a 3-inch TFT capacitive touch screen with 256K colors. The phone relies on TouchWiz 4.0, which is the latest version of the touch user interface as of the release of the Galaxy Y. Using the accelerometer and gyroscope to detect motion, the interface includes panning and tilt features.
A SWYPE QWERTY virtual keyboard is pre-installed, with its keys spread fairly far apart from each other in both portrait and landscape orientations. This should make typing reasonably easy.
Connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Micro-USB. It includes a tethering feature allowing it to convert into a hotspot for Wi-Fi enabled devices where there are no Wi-Fi networks available. With its Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, you can wirelessly stream stereo music to compatible headsets. It also has a standard 3.5 mm audio jack for regular wired headsets.
The camera has a 2-megapixel sensor, and it support geo-tagging. You can also capture QVGA videos at speeds of 15 fps. There is however, no secondary camera.
